The Indignants take over Puerta del Sol plaza
Thousands of 'Indignants' (Indignados) protesters gathered in Puerta del Sol plaza in central Madrid on Saturday to decry the grim socioeconomic reality in Spain as high unemployment, stagnant growth, and the prospect of another recession sent citizens into the streets to rally against austerity measures. Protesters plan on demonstrating for a total of four days until May 15 to mark the one-year anniversary of the 15M movement when the Indignados first took to the streets. Spain currently has the highest unemployment rate in the European Union at 25%.
