A dragon prop embellished with what's known on the street as 'crazy eyes' is prepared for an upcoming Lunar New Year Parade in Fresno, California, on February 26, 2012. The dragon will also be used to train aspiring teenage dragon dancers who want to perform at Lunar New Year celebrations.

Creating sparks for the Lantern Festival
Revelers celebrated the Lantern Festival in Nuanquan, Hebei province on February 6, 2012 by watching blacksmiths splash molten metal against cold walls to generate sizzling sparks. Nuanquan village is renowned for their blacksmiths and the tradition of creating explosive sparks with molten metal is seen as a more economical alternative to the purchase of fireworks when celebrating the Lantern Festival. Sky Lanterns for fortune in the Year of the Dragon
The heavens over the Pingxi district of New Taipei City, Taiwan, were filled with 'sky lanterns' released by Taiwanese celebrants on January 28, 2012, in anticipation of the annual Lantern Festival which falls on February 6 this year. The lanterns were released by wishful Taiwanese in an effort to bring themselves good luck and fortune in the coming year.

On the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, visitors to the Dongyue Temple in Beijing, burn incense and pray for wealth, health, and luck in the coming year.

Qing Dynasty ceremony at Ditan Park
Performers garbed in ceremonial Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) robes enter a theater to participate in a Qing Dynasty ceremony where emperors pray to the heavenly gods for good fortune and a bountiful harvest in the coming year. The event took place at Ditan Park which is also known as the Temple of Earth, in Beijing, China, on January 23, 2012 to open up the Lunar New Year.
