Beau Sancy diamond sold for US$9.7 million
The 34.98 carat diamond 'Beau Sancy' sold at auction in Geneva for US$9.7 million on May 15, 2012. Sotheby's handled the sale for the Royal House of Prussia and five bidders marked the price up from a pre-auction estimate of US$2 to US$4 million dollars.

Leica 0-series camera sells for $2.7 million
A Leica 0-series camera, number 116, manufactured in 1923 as a prototype for the 35mm film market was sold at the WestLicht Photographica Auction in Vienna, Austria, for the record sum of 2,160,000 Euros (US$2,789,796) on May 12, 2012. The fully functional camera was 1 of 25 cameras produced by Leica and only 12 are known to have survived the decades. The pre-auction estimate for the camera was US$600,000-$800,000 but anxious buyers bid the price to an unprecedented amount for a camera.

Sunflower Seeds by Ai WeiWei auctioned
A ton of handmade and hand-painted porcelain sunflower seeds crafted by 1,600 artisans under the direction of dissident artist Ai WeiWei was sold at Sotheby's contemporary art auction for US$782,500 on May 9, 2012.

The Martian Pink diamond headed for auction
Christie’s is handling the sale of the 12.04 carat 'Martian Pink' Fancy Intense Pink Type IIa Round Brilliant-Cut Diamond Ring, by Harry Winston, (Sale 2918) as part of their Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels auction on the afternoon of May 29 in Hong Hong. The diamond has a pre-auction estimate of US$8-$12 million.

Yves Klein’s Fire-Color 1 sells for US$36.40 million
Yves Klein's painting 'FC 1' (Fire-Color 1) has sold at a Christie's Post War and Contemporary Art sale in New York to an anonymous buyer for US$36.40 million which includes the buyer's premium. The painting was created with a blowtorch, water, and two models - Klein sprayed the models with water who pressed their bodies against a board which was then seared with a blowtorch. The moist areas where the models pressed their bodies against formed outlines as seen in the photo below. FC1 was made a few weeks before Klein died at age 34 in 1962.
