World Press Photo of the Year for 2011
Amateur photographer Samuel Aranda's snapshot of a Yemeni woman cloaked in black and cradling a wounded relative after a protest in Yemen has won the 55th annual World Press Photo Contest. Aranda's winning photo was taken on October 15, 2011 and it beat out over 100,000 other photos from 5,247 photographers around the globe. The international World Press jurors who picked the image announced their decision on Friday, February 10, 2012.
