Spiegel Grove artificial reef thriving
Ten years ago on May 17, 2002, the USS Spiegel Grove landing ship was intentionally sunk in the waters off Key Largo, Florida, to serve as the foundation for the Spiegel Grove project which would create an artificial reef. Ten years after the sinking of the ship, the USS Spiegel is encrusted with coral, barnacles, algae, and other marine line that made the hull of the ship their home.

Ancient ice cave in Ningwu County
Tourists visiting a purported three million-year-old ice cave in Ningwu County, Shanxi Province, China, snap photos of the protrusions and mounds of ice that have formed in the underground sanctuary. The interior of the cave is lit by colorful LEDs to give the normally bland ice an infusion of color - LEDs are used because they run relatively 'cool' unlike incandescent or even fluorescent lights.

Knotweed root shaped like a man
A knotweed root which grew into the figure of a man is held aloft by Kong Lingfa on a street in Xuchang, Henan Province, China. According to Lingfa, he purchased the anthropomorphic and anatomically accurate root measuring 11.81-inches from a peasant in the Shengnongjia Mountains.

The La Silla Paranal Observatory in Chile which is operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) snapped a photo of the Centaurus A (NGC 5128) galaxy with a cumulative exposure time of over 50 hours for the most in-depth view of NGC 5128 taken so far.
