A two-year-old tabby cat named 'Meow' was recently taken in by the Sante Fe Animal Shelter in New Mexico after his 87-year-old owner could no longer care for him. When Meow was weighed, he tipped the scales at 39.10 pounds which is approximately 27 pounds overweight - the average weight of an adult cat ranges between 7-12 pounds. The shelter gave the cat to a foster family temporarily along with a strict diet regiment with the goal of helping Meow lose 10 pounds so he can be put up for adoption. Shelter spokesman Ben Swan said, "The thing with this cat is when you look at it, certainly it's obese. You see that. But it's a sweet looking cat. His face is very sweet. It's just incredibly fat. He's doing everything a normal cat would do except he loses his breath and tires easily. We're seeing what we can to do help him."
