Lucky the penguin… gets lucky

A Humboldt penguin named Lucky who lives at the Santa Barbara Zoo, in California, was born with a deformed right foot which caused him to limp along in unsteady fashion. The animal handlers at the zoo decided that a special shoe was needed to help Lucky waddle like other penguins so they contacted footwear company Teva for help. Teva examined the problem and designed a waterproof sandal which allows Lucky to walk with a normal gait. Dean Noble, who is a manager at the zoo, said, "Thanks to his new shoe, Lucky can now walk, jump, and swim like the other penguins, and is well on his way to living up to his name.’
